What if instead of calling you "disordered", they called you human and impacted, having natural human responses to trauma, stress and grief that do not need to be pathologized or treated as abnormal?

We live in a culture that stigmatizes and dehumanizes trauma, by calling natural human responses abnormal or disordered. And then many academics over-complicate these responses so people don’t understand the responses - further dehumanizing and stigmatizing them.

But what if there was nothing ‘wrong’ with you?

What if your responses to trauma were an indicator of how deeply human you are?

What if you were simply (and complexly) impacted by trauma, and not disordered or broken or wrong or abnormal?

What if we talked about trauma in a way that humanized us all?

Join us for a series of programs, workshops and community calls on different topics linked to humanizing trauma.

See below for details of what’s coming up in the series…

Victim-Blaming

a one week workshop, as part of our Humanizing Trauma series

18th - 24th October 2021

Registration now closed

Victim-blaming is, in part, designed to dehumanize victims of abuse and oppression, by blaming us, our actions or who we are, for the harm done, and shaming us for our natural human responses to our traumas.

However, IT WAS NOT YOUR FAULT.

Victim blaming happens all the time in our cultures. And so we invite you to come together in community with us to explore the complexities of victim-blaming and supporting each other to reclaim your humanity and how there is nothing wrong with you for being victimized, because it wasn’t your fault.

Join us for this one week online workshop where we’ll be exploring:

  • Victim-blaming in interpersonal abuse

  • Victim-blaming as part of and as a form of oppression

  • Victim-blaming by shaming us for being impacted by trauma

Workshop Format

- Monday 18th - Sunday 24th October 2021 (REGISTRATION NOW CLOSED)

- On Monday, Wednesday and Friday you will receive an introduction to the day’s topic and prompts for your own creative exploration (all within a Mighty Networks Group where you can share your reflections with other participants).

  • You will also have access to the Mighty Networks space for one week after the workshop for any catch up or extra time with the prompts/material.

- On Sunday (9am PT/12pm ET/5pm UK) you will be invited to join a 1.5 hour community video call (via Zoom), where we can come together to discuss what we have learned or uncovered or unravelled during the week. To meet each other as human and not to blame for the abuse and oppression we have been harmed by.

  • There will be the option to use automatic closed captions on the call.

  • You get to show up from wherever you are comfortable, keeping your video on or off, and you can participate in conversation as much as there is time for or little as you like.

  • There will be an audio recording of the call made available the day after the recording, along with an automated (unedited) transcript. You will have access to this for one week until we close the Mighty Networks space.

- You will also receive a free PDF workbook for resourcing yourself while writing into difficult topics.
